All commercial nuclear power plants are using energy from fission because the nuclear fission reactions are controllable.
In the nuclear power plants energy is obtained by nuclear fission rather than nuclear fusion because in Nuclear Fission reactions are controllable reactions. We can increase or decrease the amount of the particles undergoing season in a nuclear reaction.
On the other hand nuclear fusion reactions are uncontrollable in nature. Basically they are the reactions of two hydrogen molecules fusing with each other in order to form a Helium nucleus this results in enormous amount of energy but we cannot keep a cap on the nuclear fuel undergoing fusion.
