A 7.850 g sample of a solid compound is analyzed and it is determined that its composition
is 2.087 g of potassium, 2.775 g of chromium, and 2.988 g of oxygen. Calculate the empirical formula of
this compound.

Answers

Answer 1

The empirical formula of the sample is KCrO₄

Given that :

Potassium , K = 2.087 g

molar mass of potassium = 36 g/mol

Chromium , Cr = 2.775 g

molar mass of chromium = 52 g/mol

Oxygen , O =  2.988 g

molar mass of oxygen = 16 g/mol

the number of moles of potassium = mass / molar mass

                                                          = 2.087 / 36

                                                          = 0.05 mol

the number of mole of chromium = mass / molar mass

                                                        = 2.775 / 52

                                                         = 0.05 mol

the number of moles of oxygen = mass / molar mass

                                                     = 2.988 / 16

                                                     = 0.18 mol

now diving by the smallest number, we get

moles of K = 1

moles of Ce = 1

moles of O = 4

the empirical formula for the sample is  KCrO₄

gaseous ethane will react with gaseous oxygen to produce gaseous carbon dioxide and gaseous water . suppose 8.12 g of ethane is mixed with 13. g of oxygen. calculate the maximum mass of carbon dioxide that could be produced by the chemical reaction. be sure your answer has the correct number of significant digits.

Answers

Ethane is the limiting reactant, so no mass of ethane will be left over by the chemical reaction. All the mass will react, the 8.1 grams of ethane.

How much grams of ethane will react, explain.

First of all, we need to determine the reaction and the limiting reactant to work with the stoichiometry.

The equation is: 2C₂H₆ + 7O₂ →  4CO₂ + 6H₂O

We define the moles of the reactants:

8.12 g / 30 g/mol = 0.270 moles of ethane

13g / 32 g/mol = 0.406 moles of oxygen

To determine the limiting reactant, we start with oxygen:

7 moles of O₂ can react with 2 moles of ethane

Then, 0.406 moles of O₂ will react with (0.406 . 2) / 7= 0.116 moles of ethane.

We do not have enough ethane, just only 0.07 moles to react.

Ethane is the limiting reactant, so no mass of ethane will be left over by the chemical reaction. All the mass will react, the 8.12grams of ethane.

determine the limiting reactant when 2.0 moles of fe and 6.0 moles of o2 are added to the chemical reactor.

Answers

When 2.0 moles of Fe and 6.0 moles of O₂ are added in a chemical reactor, the limiting reactant between Fe and O₂ is Fe.

Limiting reactant is defined as the reactant which is present in less quantity than the required. It limits or restricts the yield of a reaction before other reactants are completely used in a reaction. The other reactant is known as excess reactant.

The balanced reaction between Fe and O₂ is given as

4Fe+3O₂→2Fe₂O₃

To find out limiting reactant, we need to find out moles of Fe₂O₃ using moles of Fe and O₂. The mol to mol ratio between Fe and Fe₂O₃ is 4:2 or 2:1. Hence, moles of Fe₂O₃ formed is

2.0 mol Fe×(1 mol Fe₂O₃/2 mol Fe)

=1 mol Fe₂O₃

The mol to mol ratio between O₂ and Fe₂O₃ is 3:2. Hence, moles of Fe₂O₃ formed is

6.0 mol O₂×(2 mol Fe₂O₃/3 mol O₂)

=(6.0×2 mol Fe₂O₃/3)

=12.0 mol Fe₂O₃/3

=4.0 mol Fe₂O₃

Since Fe forms the less moles of Fe₂O₃. Hence, the limiting reactant is Fe.

Therefore, when 2.0 moles of Fe and 6.0 moles of O₂ are added in a chemical reactor, the limiting reactant between Fe and O₂ is Fe.

Oil shale is a sedimentary rock. As it reaches its oil window, oil shale releases a liquid known as shale oil. Oil shale is the rock from which shale oil is extracted. Shale oil is similar to petroleum, and can be refined into many different substances, including diesel fuel, gasoline, and liquid petroleum gas (LPG).The difference between shale oil and crude oil comes down to how it is extracted. Because shale oil is bound up tightly in impermeable rock, it is considered tight oil and requires hydraulic fracturing to be extracted. Crude oil can be drilled out conventionally.Shale oil is a substitute for conventional crude oil; however, extracting shale oil is costlier than the production of conventional crude oil both financially and in terms of its environmental impact.Russia has the biggest shale oil reserves in the world. But in terms of shale gas reserves, America is not the biggest shale oil reserve holder. The biggest shale gas reserve holder, on the other hand, is China.Although the quality of raw shale oil is low, the enormous amount of oil shale available in the world positions shale oil as a significant resource for future production of fuels and chemicals. v= volume

Molarity

Mole concentration per liter of solution is known as molarity.
