subordinate clause:
clause type:

After He Had Waited An Hour, Mr. Jones Received A Telephone Call Directing Him To Go At Once To A Certain

Answers

Answer 1

Subordinate Clause here in this sentence is "After he had waited an hour".

Clause type- Adverb

A clause is a set of words with a subject and a verb that can be subordinate (when it does not represent a complete notion and functions as an adjective, adverb, or noun that modifies another clause) or independent (when it expresses a complete thought and it can stand alone as a sentence). The subordinate clause in the offered sentence is After he had waited an hour because it does not have a complete meaning on its own and must rely on another phrase to make sense. Similarly, it is an adverb clause because it modifies or provides additional information about when Mr. Jones received a specific phone call. The clause Mr. Jones received a phone call asking him to travel immediately to a specific motel room, on the other hand, is an independent clause since it represents a complete concept on its own.

This is the subordinate clause and clause type.

Which elements would you least likely use to develop an idea in a personal narrative?

Personal story is a literary narrative that describes personal experience; it is typically told in the first person, and its subject matter is unconventional. An account from one's life or experiences is considered "personal." The term "nontraditional" describes literature that does not adhere to the standard definitions of a narrative.

Which elements would you least likely use to develop an idea in a personal narrative?

When we are told stories that help us understand people's viewpoints on the world, we are better able to comprehend how they feel and think. Due to their digestible style and the fact that we are empathizing beings, personal narratives aid in our ability to relate to the tales of others.

It needs to have an introduction, a narrative, a setting, a climax, an anticlimax (if there is one), and a conclusion.

The tone should be established in the introduction, and the main point(s) you wish to make should be highlighted throughout the body. What lessons you have taken away from the just-told narrative can be stated in the conclusion.

Your narrative essay should showcase your distinct worldview. Establish your point of view, the main ideas you want the reader to remember, and your voice. Before you begin writing the story, it is a good idea to have a clear goal in mind.

Voluntourism: An Opportunity Too Good to be True

A Speech to the Student Body of Evergreen High

[1] Picture this: It's Spring Break, and you fly off to some country where there's lush rainforests and beautiful, blue coastlines to explore. There's also people in need, so you decide to blend your vacation with volunteering. Volunteering as a tourist, or voluntourism, seems like a great way to explore new regions and help people at the same time. However, this "volunteer plus travel" experience can actually harm local communities. While many teens might view traveling and volunteering abroad as a worthwhile adventure, there are more genuine and effective ways to make a difference.

[2] Most would agree that volunteering in general is a worthy use of time. However, what if you found out the children you are "helping" are actually being kept in poor conditions so voluntourists will spend money to come to the local area? Dale Rolfe, a supporter of ethical voluntourism, explains the shocking reality that "Animal sanctuaries and orphanages are often manufactured for the voluntourist...encouraging a cycle of exploiting the very animals and children the volunteers are trying to help."

[3] Proponents of the "volunteer plus travel" experience also argue that traveling to new places builds character and is a valuable way to learn about different cultures. With voluntourism, however, participants often pursue experiences that are all about them. For example, they sign up to build a school for a gold star on their resume, but they have no real building skills and take jobs away from local construction workers (Schulten). Or, they arrive to teach English but instead take selfies with the locals. One world traveler and ethical voluntourist believes voluntourism "can perpetuate small minded views of the world by taking insulated, fake, and structured experiences and selling them as unabridged and eye opening" (Carlos). The voluntour experience is a mirage. The voluntourist's eyes are not opened to real life at the destination, and lasting change is not achieved.

[4] If you want a genuine experience where you can see a lasting impact, there are better options than voluntourism. You can volunteer in your local community. Give an hour every week to your town's animal rescue. Serve monthly dinners to the homeless. Be a reliable, positive influence on a child who needs a mentor. Studies show that volunteering and forming lasting relationships with those you help has a positive impact on your physical and emotional health. In fact, blood pressure is reduced, memory is improved, and rates of depression are reduced (Michaels).

[5] There is another reason to look into alternatives to voluntourism. Did you know the average "voluntour" travel package costs $3,400 (Rolfe)? Could that travel money be better spent? If the world's citizens are your passion, it could go to an international organization. If you care about education, your funds can be used to buy books for students in faraway lands. If you want villagers to have clean water, contribute funds to local efforts to dig wells. If you want to experience a different culture, travel to the country as a guest, and learn from the locals how you can best help them after you've returned home. But do not voluntour.

[6] In reality, there are better ways to make a difference. Voluntourism might appear to be an adventure that blends travel and helping others, but it does little except provide a costly, superficial experience that might actually do more harm than good. So, volunteer where you are most needed-at home, where you can stay to see the job through and form genuine, lasting relationships. Choose a beautiful coastline closer to home and send the travel money you saved to an international organization that will put it to good use. Whatever you do, don't turn someone else's hardship into your vacation.

What is a expert testimony?

An expert witness is a person whose testimony is accepted by the judge as being of a particular field of knowledge, notably in common law nations like the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States.

Repetition occurs when a word or phrase is used more than once to emphasize a point or to emphasize a deeper meaning in the text. Now, repetition can be subtle or overt, and writers can be highly imaginative in interpreting what those recurring phrases mean.

In this case, the narrator stated that voluntourism might appear to be an adventure that blends travel and helping others, but it does little except provide a costly, superficial experience that might actually do more harm than good. So, volunteer where you are most needed-at home, where you can stay to see the job through and form genuine, lasting relationships.

What is a metaphor?

A metaphor is a comparison between two or more things without using either of the terms “like” or “as.” In this phrase, the person’s feet are being compared to dead fish in a sense of saying they are alike.

Personification on the other hand is when an object or abiotic factor is given human feelings, actions, or qualities that in the typical world would not exist. Melanie needs to continue her research on the subject of dinosaurs. Which print sources would likely be the most useful to her?
A.
encyclopedia articles about modern birds
B.
peer-reviewed science journals
C.
the latest blog posts on the topic
D.
a local history museum

Answers

Answer: peer-reviewed science journals

Explanation:

The most useful print sources for Melanie's research on dinosaurs would likely be peer-reviewed science journals. The correct option is B.

What are science journals?

Science journals are periodical publications that publish original research articles, review articles, and other scientific content related to a particular field of study. They are the primary means by which scientists communicate their findings to the broader scientific community.

Science journals typically follow a rigorous peer-review process, in which experts in the field evaluate submitted manuscripts for scientific accuracy, clarity, and novelty. This process helps ensure that the information presented in these journals is reliable and trustworthy.

There are many different science journals covering various fields of study, including biology, physics, chemistry, earth science, and many others. Some well-known examples of science journals include Nature, Science, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

Here in the question,

Peer-reviewed science journals publish research articles that have undergone rigorous evaluation by experts in the field, ensuring that the information presented is reliable and accurate. These journals contain the latest findings and developments in the field of paleontology, including new discoveries, research on evolutionary relationships, and studies on the behavior and physiology of dinosaurs.

Option A, encyclopedia articles about modern birds, may contain some useful information about the evolutionary relationship between dinosaurs and birds. However, they may not be comprehensive enough to provide in-depth information on specific aspects of dinosaur research.

Option C, the latest blog posts on the topic, may not be reliable sources of information as they are often written by non-experts and may contain inaccurate or biased information.

Option D, a local history museum, may have some useful information on dinosaurs, but it may not provide access to the latest research and developments in the field. Additionally, the information presented may be geared towards a general audience rather than researchers.

Therefore, peer-reviewed science journals would be the best option for Melanie to gather accurate and up-to-date information on the subject of dinosaurs.
