Can you name the place I am visiting? In what country is this famous landmark found?

Many roads come together at this site. With all that traffic around here, it’s safest to get to this monument using an underground walkway. The monument I’m visiting today is located along a famous tree-lined street called the Champs-Elysees. Construction of the monument began in 1806. It was built to celebrate the victories of Napoleon, a famous leader of this country. The monument wasn’t finished in time for a parade to honor Napoleon’s new bride in 1810 so, to make it appear completed, the architect painted a “dummy” of the building on canvas and hung it at the site. In 1920, the body of an unknown soldier who had died in battle was buried in a tomb underneath the building. That soldier represents the 1,500,000 men of this country who died fighting in World War I. My guidebook says that this site is also where the Tour de France bicycle race ends every year. It also says this landmark is so large -- about 163 feet tall and 147 feet wide -- that a person once flew an airplane through it! I’ve taken the elevator to the top to get a great view of the “City of Lights.” After a day of touring, I think I might head to the McDonald’s down the street for a snack.

Question 3 (1 point)

Answers

Answer:

Option 5 is correct. Booker T. Washington's famous speech at the 1895 Atlanta Exposition was an attempt to assure the white audience that African American workers could be trusted. In the speech, he emphasized the importance of education and self-reliance for African Americans, but also encouraged them to accept segregation and discrimination in order to gain economic opportunities. He did not decry Plessy v. Ferguson as an "abomination," explicitly reject segregation, or express a position on immigrant labor. The speech was not interpreted the same way by African Americans and whites, with many African Americans criticizing Washington for his accommodationist approach.

Why do you think the US originally didn’t commit ground troops to the war in the Korean Peninsula

Answers

The US gets involved in the war to throw away the plan of Communist expansion by China.

President Truman announced to the nation and the world that America would intervene in the Korean conflict to prevent the conquest of an independent nation by communism.

Primarily because of the threat of Communist expansion by China, along with the fear that the SU was working with China to create bombs. Plus, Korea was positioned at the 38th Parallel, which makes it an important point to hold in the area for political control.

President Truman ordered the U.S. Air Force and Navy to help the South Koreans to keep away the invaders from their path. He initially refrained from committing ground forces after being advised that North Koreans could be stopped efficiently only by America's superior air and naval power.

Explain the steps taken by the Nazis to control the Jewish population in the years leading up to the Holocaust.

Explain how the civilian experience in World War II was similar and/or different from previous wars that you've learned about. Provide three or four examples.

Now that you've read more about civilian experiences in World War II, has your opinion on whether the atomic bombs were justified changed? Why or why not? Be sure to cite evidence in your answer.

Answers

The steps taken by the Nazis to control the Jewish population in the years leading up to the Holocaust included:

1. The Nuremberg Laws of 1935, which stripped Jews of their civil rights and defined them as a separate "race,"

2. The 1938 Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass), in which Jewish homes, businesses, and synagogues were vandalized and destroyed, and thousands of Jews were arrested and deported to concentration camps.

3. The establishment of ghettos, in which Jews were forced to live in overcrowded and impoverished conditions and were cut off from the rest of society

4. The implementation of the "Final Solution" in 1941, in which Jews were rounded up and sent to extermination camps, where they were killed en masse in gas chambers

In several ways, the civilian experience during World War II was similar to and different from previous wars:

1. Similar: Civilians, including women and children, were targeted and suffered greatly, as in previous wars. Civilians were also used as forced labor and forced to flee their homes.

2. Different: The scale of destruction and loss of civilian life was unprecedented in World War II, with cities and entire countries being devastated by bombing and invasion.

3. Different: The Holocaust, in which six million Jews were systematically murdered, was a unique and unparalleled aspect of the civilian experience in World War II.

4. Similar: The use of propaganda to mobilize and control the population in World War II was similar to previous wars.

My opinion on whether the atomic bombs were justified has not changed after reading about the civilian experience in World War II. I believe that the atomic bombs were not justified as they caused mass destruction of lives and property and were an inhumane act of war. The use of atomic bombs killed over 200,000 people and caused immense suffering for the survivors. The bombings were not necessary, as Japan was already on the verge of surrender, and the dropping of the bombs was a display of military power and not a necessary act for winning the war.

What are some of the criticisms of the Electoral College system as a result of the 2000 and 2016 elections? How does the US Census that occurs every ten years factor into the Electoral College? Explain in 3-5 sentences.

Answers

Answer:

The biggest criticism of the Electoral College system is that it gives an unequal representation to small states because less populated states get fewer Electoral College votes.

Explanation:

This is especially evident in the 2000 and 2016 US elections, where the candidate who received more popular votes (Al Gore and Hillary Clinton, respectively) still lost. The US Census that occurs every 10 years factors into the Electoral College because it is used to reapportion the Electoral College states’ representation. This means that states with more people will receive more Electoral College votes, as each state is assigned at least 3 Electoral College votes regardless of size. Ultimately, the US Census determines the number of House Representatives and Electoral College votes each state gets.

The boundaries between pop, country and western, and rhythm and blues were
defined by geography and/or race in the minds of the music industry, with pop assumed
to be consumable by everybody. Country and western was for white people in the South
and the West, and rhythm and blues was for black audiences. Once it emerged, rock
and roll would not only prove these boundaries to be based on false premises but would
also throw another into the mix: age of the audience. With these ideas in mind, are there
boundaries in place between pop, country and western, and rhythm and blues today? If
so, are they rooted in geography, race, age, or something different?

Answers

The boundaries between pop, country and western, and rhythm and blues have evolved over time and are not as rigid as they once were. In the past, these boundaries were defined by geography and race, with pop assumed to be consumable by everyone, country and western being associated with white people in the South and West, and rhythm and blues being associated with black audiences.

Today, these boundaries are not as clearly defined, and there is a greater overlap and blending of genres. Pop music, for example, incorporates elements of hip-hop, R&B, and even country and western, and many artists have crossed over from one genre to another.

However, there are still some distinctions based on geography, race, and age. Pop music tends to be more popular in urban areas and among younger audiences, while country and western music tends to have a stronger following in rural areas and among older audiences. Similarly, rhythm and blues has a large following among African American audiences, but it's also consumed by people from all different backgrounds.

In summary, the boundaries between pop, country and western, and rhythm and blues have evolved over time and are not as rigid as they once were. What were jim crow laws?

Jim Crow laws were a set of state and local rules that made racial segregation lawful. The laws, named after a Black minstrel show figure, were intended to marginalize African Americans by denying them the opportunity to vote, hold employment, acquire an education, or other possibilities for roughly 100 years, from the post-Civil War era until 1968. Those who sought to disobey Jim Crow laws were frequently arrested, fined, imprisoned, beaten, and killed.

Jim Crow laws had their beginnings in 1865, directly following the enactment of the 13th Amendment, which ended slavery in the United States.

Black codes were stringent municipal and state rules that specified when, where, and how previously enslaved individuals might labor, as well as how much remuneration they could get. The codes spread throughout the South as a legal means of enslaving Black individuals, taking away their voting rights, controlling where they lived and how they moved, and seizing children for labor purposes.
