The American, thinking that Muni was the owner, got interested in buying the horse statue, and made an offer. Muni, who couldn't understand English, thought that the American made an offer for his goats, and he sold them because he needed money. Later he realized that the goats were still at his home, but the statue was missing.

If we think about it, both Muni and the American got what they wanted, even if it was through a confusion. Muni wanted money for food, which he got from the American, the American wanted the horse statue, which he took after paying Muni.
