Who is Patrick Henry ?

Patrick Henry was an American lawyer, planter, politician, and orator who famously declared to the Second Virginia Convention, "Give me liberty or give me death!" He was a Founding Father who served as Virginia's first and sixth post-colonial governor, from 1776 to 1779 and 1784 to 1786.

Henry, a native of Hanover County, Virginia, received most of his education at home. He became a lawyer through self-study after an unsuccessful store venture and assisting his father-in-law at Hanover Tavern.

Henry began his practise in 1760 and quickly rose to prominence as a result of his victory in the Parson's Cause against the Anglican clergy. He was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses, where he quickly became known for his vehement opposition to the Stamp Act of 1765.
