essay on corona virus on my mental health
an essay on corona? ok! here
It has affected me personally in the social and educational aspect, but I know around the city of Detroit it's affecting others as well. In Detroit, which is one of the cities around the country hit hard by the virus, the pandemic has also affected the youth. Youth are now forced to stay home instead of going to school and spending time with friends. Most kids need to be outside and with people to release their energy and socialize. Now this cannot happen, because the virus has affected us so much. One thing we also see happening is food insecurities and social distancing. Due to what is happening in the world, people are very much afraid and cautious about food supply and interactions with people. People are afraid and are told to stay inside, so we stock up supplies that will last them about a month. Usually people get stuff that we will last them about two weeks, but now we need to stay home as much as we can.
With social distancing, we now separate ourselves from other parts of society. This has made me feel very much disconnected from my friends. Humans are made to be out and about and socialize with beings on Earth. These unfortunate events have led many people to be disconnected from society. This has allowed my mind to go to the dark side, where my fears come out. My main fear is “How long will my life be on pause?” I’m afraid of how long I will be stuck in the house and can’t see my friends. Will it be a couple more weeks or will it be a couple months?

excerpt from "A Cooking Revolution: How Clean Energy and Cookstoves Are Saving Lives" by Chef José Andrés, June 7, 2016
Cooking: it's a simple act that has brought families around the world together for thousands and thousands of years.
As a chef, I can think of few things more beautiful than that. However, I also know how deadly such a simple act can be , not only to our health, but to our environment.
Think about it: For Americans, turning on the stove means simply turning a knob or switch. For people living in developing countries, particularly women and children, it means hours of collecting fuels like firewood, dung, or coal to burn in a rudimentary, smoky cookstove or over an open fire. The result is a constant source of toxic smoke that families breathe in daily, causing diseases like child pneumonia, heart disease, and lung cancer , not to mention taking a child away from her education.
In fact, diseases caused by smoke from open fires and stoves claim 4.3 million lives every year. That's more than AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined.
And the environment suffers, too. When people collect wood every day from their local forests to create charcoal or fuel for wood-burning stoves, it creates an unsustainable pace of deforestation that leads to mudslides, loss of watershed, and other environmental consequences. These stoves also contribute up to 25 percent of black carbon emissions, a pollutant that contributes directly to climate change.
You see, from what we cook to how we cook, our food connects with our lives on so many levels. That's why having access to better technology and clean energy for cooking is as equally important as the ingredients in the food being prepared.
It's also why I'm proud to support an effort to bring clean cookstoves and fuels to millions of people in developing countries.
Together with the United Nations, the U.S. government, and partners around the world, the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves focuses on working with local communities and organizations to develop a market for cookstoves and fuels that significantly reduce emissions, cook more efficiently, and fit with local customs and culture....
The Obama administration's investment goes a long way toward achieving our goal of bringing access to clean cookstoves and fuels to 100 million households in places like China, Guatemala, Kenya, and India by 2020.
Just last month, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his plan to connect 50 million Indian families to clean cooking gas over the next three years. This is an important step being taken at an unprecedented scale, and it could help protect the lives of millions, while also improving India's environment.
That's powerful, people! Mothers can be healthier. Young girls have more time to go to school. Forests grow again. People can feed themselves without risking their lives to cook a meal.
That's what we can accomplish by providing clean cookstoves and fuels. And that's a simple act that can change the world for years and years to come.

C.to garner external support and funding to expand India's program beyond the current plan

The phrase that best describes the purpose for the author describing India's plan is to hopefully garner more external support and funding so that the program of getting cooking stoves to more families in developing countries can be achieved.
From the excerpt, the author talked about the dangers of gathering firewood to light up and cook and some of the dangers include deforestation, health problems (sometimes leading to death due to inhalation of smoke) and less time for children to go to school.
By describing India's plan, the author is hoping to get more external support and funding so the plan can be expanded.

Please select the best answer from the choices provided
Ο Α

c
Answer:
Based on his comments, we can infer:
b. Vogue feels the image has been misinterpreted.
Explanation:
If we contextualize this, it will be easier to answer. Brazilian model Gisele Bundchen and famous professional basketball player Lebron James posed for the cover of the fashion magazine Vogue. The cover caused controversy because it seemed to reinforce stereotypes concerning different races. The picture was even compared to King Kong posters, since James posed in a beast-like way, his hand around Bundchen's waist.
As we can see, Vogue spokesperson Patrick O'Connell does not agree with that interpretation of the cover. He thinks Gisele and Lebron look good, not seeing any problem with the photo. He does not mention or imply anything about starting a constructive conversation about race. He is basically defending the magazine's decision to use that photo. We can, therefore, safely infer Vogue feels the image has been misinterpreted.

why do plant and animals compete?
Organisms compete for the resources (necessities) they need to survive-
ex. air, water, food, and space.
In areas where these are sufficient, organisms live in comfortable co-existence where competition is not as evident, and in areas where resources are abundant, the ecosystem boasts high species richness (diversity) and plants and animals can live a lavish life as long as there is enough resources for the given population.

Lucia walks on the beach every morning, today she saw two turtles headed for the ocean.
Lucia loves turtles, and she invited her friend Lena to walk with her.
Lena joined Lucia the next day she was hoping the turtles would appear again.
The girls didn't see any turtles, but they did see a leaping dolphin
Answer and Explanation:
A comma splice is the use of a comma alone to join sentences that were originally independent. It is a common mistake, but it should be avoided. Notice how that happens in sentence 1:
Lucia walks on the beach every morning, today she saw two turtles headed for the ocean.
Notice how the comma breaks the sentence in a strange manner. One way to correct that would be by adding the conjunctions "and" or "but" after the comma.
A fused sentence happens when we put together two independent clauses with no punctuation or conjunction to connect them at all. That is what happens in sentence 3:
Lena joined Lucia the next day she was hoping the turtles would appear again.
This can be correct by adding a semicolon or a comma plus a conjunction.
Sentences 2 and 4 are correct as they are. They use commas and conjunctions to connect the independent sentences:
Lucia loves turtles, and she invited her friend Lena to walk with her.
The girls didn't see any turtles, but they did see a leaping dolphin.

What are your perceptions of Joseph Stalin as a leader?
Answer: Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin terrorised his own people, but for the first time a survey suggests that most Russians view him favourably.
The respected Levada Center polled Russians aged 18 and above in 137 towns and cities in March. The result: 51% respect, like or admire Stalin.
In the 1930s Stalin's communist terror engulfed the USSR, sending millions to labour camps or firing squads.
But the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany is a source of national pride.
The Levada poll (in Russian) is the highest rating for Stalin in the past 20 years - a period that has seen his portrait reappear across Russia, often with official approval. New Stalin statues have gone up in various places.

Read this excerpt from "The Open Boat" by Stephen Crane: It is fair to say here that there was not a lifesaving station within twenty miles in either direction, but the men did not know this fact and in consequence they made dark and opprobrious remarks concerning the eyesight of the nation's lifesavers. Four scowling men sat in the dinghy and surpassed records in the invention of epithets. What is the meaning of the word opprobrious within the context of the excerpt?
Answer:
C. Expressing criticism or contempt.
Explanation:
The word "opprobrious" means to criticize or say a bad word about a particular thing. It contains a negative meaning for the given word and is used as a means of expressing scorn or derogatory word about the thing.
In the given passage from The Open Boat by Stephen Crane, the four survivors of the shipwreck were on a lifeboat, hoping and looking for the sight of any help, land or people to be saved. And in their eagerness to be found, they were oblivious to the fact that there was no lifesaving station nearby. And as a result, they blamed the "nation's lifesavers" for their poor eyesight and their inability to see them struggle out in the sea. The author used the word "opprobrious" to state how the four men criticized and expressed their negative feelings about the inability of the men supposed to be out working to save any survivors out at sea.

The Editor,
Daily Times Magazine,

Dear Sir,
SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO PUT A
STOP TO DRINK DRIVING.
It is no news that the cases of casualties and deaths are on the rise everyday due to the wrecklesness of drink drivers on our roads. Lots of innocent souls have perished due to the misdeeds of these careless drivers. I think it is high time the government found a solution to this problem.
I have a few suggestions which I believe can be published on your magazine to sensitize the public and call the government to action.
First, there should be regular sensitization of drivers on the risks that accompany drink driving. Drivers should be made to know that drunkenness is not good for their health and can cause them untimely death. They should be made to know how valuable human lives are and the punishments that are attached to taking human lives due to your carelessness. Regular seminars and lectures should be organised in this regard to keep them abreast of this safety rule.
Passengers should also be sensitized through various media never to board vehicles of suspected drunkards and to be careful on the highways being fully aware that there are bad drivers on the road.
Strict laws that mete punishments on drink drivers should be passed and errants should be duly punished. This will serve as deterrent to other drivers from perpetuating such evil act.
Any youth that is not up to the age of 18 should not be allowed to drive by law. These youths are vulnerable to peer influence and pressure, it is good that they should be prevented from terminating innocent souls due to their act of juvenile deliquency.
Sales of alcohols to drivers should be greatly discouraged. Any seller who sells alcohol to someone driving a vehicle should be made to face the wrath of the law.
I believe that if these suggestions are strictly followed, there will be a drastic reduction in the number of casualties suffered due to drink driving.
Yours faithfully,
Raj Pradesh.
How is Hyde different than the criminals-for-hire mentioned in the excerpt? Hyde is more cruel and violent than other criminals. Hyde expresses remorse for his crimes. Hyde works diligently to cover up his crimes. Hyde is capable of vanishing to escape suspicion.
Answer:
The answer is: Hyde is capable of vanishing to escape suspicion.
Explanation:
This is an excerpt from the strange case of Dr Jekyll and Hyde:
Men have before hired bravos to transact their crimes, while their own person and reputation sat under shelter. I was the first that ever did so for his pleasures. I was the first that could plod in the public eye with a load of genial respectability, and in a moment, like a schoolboy, strip off these lendings and spring headlong into the sea of liberty. But for me, in my impenetrable mantle, the safety was complete. Think of it—I did not even exist! Let me but escape into my laboratory door, give me but a second or two to mix and swallow the draught that I had always standing ready; and whatever he had done, Edward Hyde would pass away like the stain of breath upon a mirror; and there in his stead, quietly at home, trimming the midnight lamp in his study, a man who could afford to laugh at suspicion, would be Henry Jekyll.
The answer to the question is:
Hyde is capable of vanishing to escape suspicion.
Answer:
Hyde is capable of vanishing to escape suspicion.

Compare and contrast the imagery of the sea every time the fisherman speaks to the fish. How do these setting descriptions contribute to the theme of the story? (Story: the fisherman and his wife)
Answer: The setting descriptions represent how bad and greedy the wishes of the fisherman's wife are, every time he goes back to the flounder and asks for another luxury.
Explanation: In the story, the fisherman's wife obligates him to go with the mystical flounder that has magical powers, she forces him to wish for more and more luxuries each time, but every time the man goes back to the flounder, the scenery is darker, creepier, and has worse climate conditions than before. Even though the man does not want to go and make a wish, the conditions of the weather make it clear that they are going too far, and should stop making greedy wishes.
