The mountains of the Sierra Nevada play a role in the formation of desert in eastern California and Nevada.

What is this an example of?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

The correct answer would be - The lithosphere influences the atmosphere and biosphere .

Explanation:

The mountains of the Sierra Nevada play the role of a barrier that blocks the air or wind that brings the clouds filled with water to eastern California and Nevada as it can not pass the mountains and reach the other side of mountains which cause less or no rain to this region.

Rain is a very important aspect for the region to be less diverse in plants and animals as most of them require water but as it is described there is no or very little precipitation so it becomes desert.

This makes it an example of the lithosphere influences the atmosphere and biosphere .

It controls energy released.
It regulates the transport of materials.
It produces proteins.
It synthesizes cellulose.

Answers

Answer:

X in the diagram represents the cell membrane and performs the function of regulates the transport of materials.

Explanation:

The cell membrane, marked with X in the diagram, is a lipid bilayer with hydrophobic properties, which acts as a semi-permeable membrane to the passage of substances.

This membrane, that covers the cell and keeps it isolated from the extracellular space, has the function of controlling or regulating the passage of materials from the extracellular to the intracellular space, as well as the exit of substances from the interior of the cell. To fulfill this function it has several alternatives of transmembrane transport.

The other options are not correct because:

The cell membrane does not control the energy released. Protein synthesis occurs in the rugged endoplasmic reticulum. Cellulose synthesis occurs inside the cell, a process dependent on photosynthesis.

A.Cell wall
B.Cell membrane
C.Vacuole
D.Ribosome

Answers

Answer:

The answer would be the cell wall

Explanation:

B is not correct because a cell membrane is a semipermeable membrane surrounding the cytoplasm of a cell.

C is wrong too because a Vacuole is a space or vesicle within the cytoplasm of a cell, enclosed by a membrane and typically containing fluid.

And D is false because a ribosome is a minute particle consisting of RNA and associated proteins found in large numbers in the cytoplasm of living cells. They bind messenger RNA and transfer RNA to synthesize polypeptides and proteins.

Which of the following best describes the process by which gas from the atmosphere is obtained by plants and used to build lipids?
A

B

C

D

Answers

Answer:C

Explanation:They use energy from the sun to chemically combine carbon dioxide with hydrogen and oxygen from water to create sugar molecules.

The process by which gas from the atmosphere is obtained by plants and used to build lipids is best described by option C (Gas is directly obtained by plants as part of the carbon cycle).

The carbon cycle is the process that brings about the circulation of carbon compounds in nature.

Carbon exists in nature as the gas carbon dioxide which makes up 0.03% of air.

The plants uses carbon dioxide in a process called photosynthesis to manufacture their own food (glucose).

Excess glucose produced by plants, are converted to substances such as starch and lipids, which are then stored in various parts of plant.

The excretory system disposes waste through the stomach.

True or False?

Answers

Answer:

False.

Explanation:

Actually the stomach isn't part of the excretory system, it's part of the digestive system.  The organs of the excretory system include the kidneys, large intestine, liver, skin, and lungs. The kidneys (also part of the urinary system) filter out blood from waste. The large intestine's job is to eliminate solid waste that remains after food is digested and water is extracted from the indigestible matter.  The liver breaks down many substances in the blood, including toxins. Sweat glands in the skin secrete a fluid waste called sweat or perspiration; however, its primary functions are temperature control and pheromone release. The lungs (also in the respiratory system) excrete some waste products, such as carbon dioxide and water.

The Life Cycles of Stars: How Supernovae Are Formed

It is very poetic to say that we are made from the dust of the stars. Amazingly, it's also true! Much of our bodies, and our planet, are made of elements that were created in the explosions of massive stars. Let's examine exactly how this can be.

Life Cycles of Stars

A star's life cycle is determined by its mass. The larger its mass, the shorter its life cycle. A star's mass is determined by the amount of matter that is available in its nebula, the giant cloud of gas and dust from which it was born. Over time, the hydrogen gas in the nebula is pulled together by gravity and it begins to spin. As the gas spins faster, it heats up and becomes as a protostar. Eventually the temperature reaches 15,000,000 degrees and nuclear fusion occurs in the cloud's core. The cloud begins to glow brightly, contracts a little, and becomes stable. It is now a main sequence star and will remain in this stage, shining for millions to billions of years to come. This is the stage our Sun is at right now.

As the main sequence star glows, hydrogen in its core is converted into helium by nuclear fusion. When the hydrogen supply in the core begins to run out, and the star is no longer generating heat by nuclear fusion, the core becomes unstable and contracts. The outer shell of the star, which is still mostly hydrogen, starts to expand. As it expands, it cools and glows red. The star has now reached the red giant phase. It is red because it is cooler than it was in the main sequence star stage and it is a giant because the outer shell has expanded outward. In the core of the red giant, helium fuses into carbon. All stars evolve the same way up to the red giant phase. The amount of mass a star has determines which of the following life cycle paths it will take from there.

diagram of the life cycles of low and high-mass stars

The life cycle of a low mass star (left oval) and a high mass star (right oval).

The illustration above compares the different evolutionary paths low-mass stars (like our Sun) and high-mass stars take after the red giant phase. For low-mass stars (left hand side), after the helium has fused into carbon, the core collapses again. As the core collapses, the outer layers of the star are expelled. A planetary nebula is formed by the outer layers. The core remains as a white dwarf and eventually cools to become a black dwarf.

On the right of the illustration is the life cycle of a massive star (10 times or more the size of our Sun). Like low-mass stars, high-mass stars are born in nebulae and evolve and live in the Main Sequence. However, their life cycles start to differ after the red giant phase. A massive star will undergo a supernova explosion. If the remnant of the explosion is 1.4 to about 3 times as massive as our Sun, it will become a neutron star. The core of a massive star that has more than roughly 3 times the mass of our Sun after the explosion will do something quite different. The force of gravity overcomes the nuclear forces which keep protons and neutrons from combining. The core is thus swallowed by its own gravity. It has now become a black hole which readily attracts any matter and energy that comes near it. What happens between the red giant phase and the supernova explosion is described below.
