The Soviet Union pre-WWII
Joseph Stalin was born in Georgia, a country just south of Russia. He joined the Russian Bolshevik revolutionaries who were a group of people that followed communist ideals. Stalin led riots and strikes and raised money by robbing banks and committing other crimes. Soon Stalin became close to Vladimir Lenin (Soviet Russian Communist leader). In 1917, the Russian Revolution took place when the government led by the Tsars (royal family) was overthrown and the Bolsheviks came into power. Russia was now called the Soviet Union and Joseph Stalin was a major leader in government.

After Lenin's death, Stalin took over as the dictator of the Soviet Union. Stalin decided that the country should move away from agriculture and become industrialized. He had factories built through the country. The Soviet government controlled the economy and took over all farms, limiting the amount of food. Stalin would not supply food in some areas of the country to starve those that he no longer wanted to live. Stalin was responsible for the deaths of over 20 million of his own people! Stalin had secret police who spied on people. He had anyone that did not agree with him killed. Stalin put anyone who could be seen as an enemy in the gulags (prison camps) without a trial, where they faced hard labor and terrible conditions.
Stalin attempted to rewrite history books about himself, renamed cities in his name, put up numerous statues of himself, and had songs and art dedicated to him. Throughout his rule he ordered millions of people he thought were against him to be killed or put into slave labor camps. At the start of World War II, Stalin formed an alliance with Adolf Hitler and Germany. However, the Germans made a surprise attack on the Soviet Union in 1941. In order to fight off the Germans, Stalin joined the Allied countries. After World War II, Stalin set up governments in the Eastern European countries that the Soviet Union had "freed" from Germany. These governments were under control by the Soviet Union. This started the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States.

Woodrow Wilson did not want war.

When World War I erupted in Europe in 1914, the 28th U.S. president pledged neutrality, in sync with prevailing American public opinion.

But while Wilson tried to avoid war for the next three years, favoring instead a negotiated collective approach to international stability, he was rapidly running out of options. Tensions heightened as Germany tried to isolate Britain in 1915 and announced unrestricted attacks against all ships that entered the war zone

J.P. Morgan handled his worker quite horribly. He was irresponsible with the health and safety of his firms' employees, which resulted in many workers' wages decreasing.

Who was J.P. Morgan?

Throughout the Gilded Age, Wall Street was ruled by American financier and investment banker John Pierpont Morgan Sr. He was the driving force behind the wave of industrial consolidation in the United States in the late 19th and early 20th century as the chairman of the banking company that eventually became known as J.P. Morgan & Co.

By reducing the workers and their wages in order to increase profits while eradicating the competition, he also established a monopoly. The pay for workers was frequently as low as $1 per day or less, and the working conditions were poor, with increased fatalities even as wages grew.

How might Hughes race and other identifiers shape his perspective on democracy

Answers

By describing what the speaker likes, Hughes suggests that there are many things which people enjoy regardless of their race. That is the way Hughes expresses a distinct viewpoint about race in the poem "Theme for English B".
In this poem, the speaker is a black young man, who is also the only "colored" student in his class. Moreover, he admits that he enjoys doing many things that people of other races also enjoy such as eating, sleeping, working, and understanding life. He wants to express the idea that, even though he seems to be very different from his peers, he actually shares things in common with them ("I guess being colored doesn’t make me not like / The same things other folks like who are other races."). Therefore, Hughes expresses a different view about race by supporting the idea of diversity and implying that skin colour does not define someone as a person.

How does knowing that carne refers to “flesh” help you understand the
word reincarnation?

Answers

Answer:

The word "carne" referring to the word "flesh" can help me understand the word reincarnation. If "carne" is part of "carnation", and "re" means before or again, I can infer that reincarnation means something close to "before life" or "another life".

Explanation:

The word/noun Reincarnation roots from the Latin words:
Re - which means again and Incarnare - which means to make flesh. This gives one the clue of how the word Reincarnation was derived.

History of the word Reincarnation

Carne in Latin means flesh or meat,

Re  means again
In Latin is a variant of upon, amongst, unto

So Re + In + Carne can easily be put together to mean to become flesh or human again.

To understand this, one must recall that human beings have always been viewed as being who can exist in many forms outside the body. Note that the word reincarnation was coined towards the middle of the first millennium BCE and was used in traditions including Jainism, Buddhism, and Hindu philosophies.

Summarize why the U.S. was afraid of invading mainland Japan.

Answers

Answer: Would have led to more loss of life.

Explanation:

President Truman believed that dropping the atomic bombs saved both American and Japanese lives because a battle on mainland Japan would have been devastating.

He is supported in this stance by the fierce resistance of the Japanese on islands closer to the mainland such as Okinawa. With over a million more Japanese soldiers waiting on the mainland as well as thousands of Kamikaze pilots, resistance on the Japanese mainland was going to be very brutal and would potentially have cost millions of lives, both civilian and military.

Truman therefore believed that dropping the atomic bombs would cause the Japanese to surrender and save both nations the massive loss of life.
