Santa Anna's forces were moving eastward toward Gonzales, according to scouts. Houston started a series of calculated withdrawals in order to buy himself enough time to get his army into combat form because he was ill-prepared to face the Mexican army with his badly trained force.
Why do you think Sam Houston chose to confront the enemy at San Jacinto rather than retreat?
Sam Houston was prepared because, in what became known as the Runaway Scrape, Texans were fleeing their homes out of fear as Santa Anna raced across the state of Texas destroying everything in its path.

Why was the admission of maine into the union at the same time as missouri a significant provision of the missouri compromise?.
Congress passed this legislation, admitting Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a non-slavery state at the same time, to maintain the nation's balance of slave and free states.
The Missouri Compromise was a United States federal legislation that balanced the desires of northern states to prevent the spread of slavery in the country with those of southern states to expand it. It straddled the line between free and slave states. The United States Senate was evenly divided on the single most divisive issue of the day. If the slavery issue could be resolved politically, it would have to be done in the Senate.

The Agricultural Revolution:
The revolution that shaped the modern world
By Nolan Norman
During the end of the Neolithic Stone Age, the earth started heating up and new plants began showing up. Some of these were wild types of wheat and barley. Then people started learning to grow more of these crops. Then went from hunting animals, to domesticating animals to breed and keep as pets. So with this started the Agricultural Revolution.
The Agricultural Revolution was a revolution because it was a new way of getting and producing food. It changed people’s way of life. Now people became dependent farmers and domesticated animals to help them with their work and provide an easier way to get meat along with a plethora of other things. They didn’t have to keep moving from one cave to another. They then started to build permanent homes for themselves and were able to have a safer way of life. They built their homes near rivers, so that they could have fertile soil to plant crops, and so that they had easy access to water to drink, and water the crops with.
Farming created many brand new challenges that early humans had to learn to work with. That is why this point in history is called a revolution. People's entire way of life along with traditions and habits.
In order to keep crops watered and protect them from flooding they built large channels to control the rivers and keep the land from flooding. The calendar was also developed so that people knew when to plant and harvest. The people also created gods of harvest such as Demeter the greek god of harvest, and Lugh the celtic god of harvest. While there are plenty of other gods of harvest I can not name all of them.
Because people started working together they realized that words were not enough to communicate. They needed a new system of conveying their thoughts and findings. This new form of communicating is called cuneiform script.
In conclusion, the Agricultural Revolution changed and shaped the modern world as we know it. This revolution has affected the way we live. We changed from a hunter- gatherer society to an agricultural society, instead of hunting animals we began taming them. I can safely say The Agricultural Revolution has changed are world for the better.

The Soviet Union and the United States fought as allies against the Axis powers during World War II. But there was tension in the two countries relationship. Americans had long-standing reservations about Soviet communism and worries about Joseph Stalin's brutal control of his own nation.
By the time World War II was over, the majority of American authorities were in agreement that the "containment" approach offered the best protection against the Soviet menace. The diplomat George Kennan (1904–2005) outlined the strategy in his infamous "Long Telegram."
The containment strategy also served as the justification for an extraordinary American armaments buildup.
