The creaky door groaned as it opened.

The door can't groan but saying "the door groaned as it opened" gives the reader a sense that the door is weathered and old and doesn't want to be opened.

Explanation:

1.

Remember, an alliteration is a literary device that requires the beginning letters of each adjacent or closely connected word to be the same.

In the phrase "Sam sold seven sacks of salt for six swiss francs", the consonant 's' is repeated seven times at the beginning of each word, therefore making it an alliteration.

In the phrase "Ravens and raccoons rarely ration rubbish." The 'r' is repeated five times at the beginning of each word, therefore making it an alliteration.

In the phrase "Mr. Miller, the muffin man, manages the muffin money." The consonant 'm' is repeated seven times at the beginning of each word, therefore making it an alliteration.

2. "The eerie hum of water ripples over the rocks."

Eerie has two long 'e' sounds that are repeated.

Hum has a soft consonant.

"Leisurely I lay beside the lake as the willow leaves swirl around me."

Leisure has soft consonants and long vowels (and buzzing but that can depend on your accent)

Willow has double soft consonants.

IE:  Charm and Harm - The final stressed vowels (a) are in perfect alignment.

General Rhyme -  Full and Wool, men and again (depends on your accent), snow and go

IE: Full and Wool - some phonetic likeness and rhyme

Eye Rhyme - come and home, laughter and daughter, move and love

IE: Come and Home - both sound different when said out loud but when read both end in 'ome' so they sound like they should rhyme.

4.

a) Metaphor - Comparison without like/as

b) Simile - Comparison with like/as

c) Metaphor - Comparison without like/as

d) Metaphor - Comparison without like/as

e) Simile - Comparison with like/as

f) Metaphor - Comparison without like/as

g) Simile - Comparison with like/as

5. Lightning danced in the sky.

Lightning is personified (because lightning can't dance) to give the reader a sense of lightning occurring frequently, fast, and rhythmically like a person dancing.

The story jumped from the page.

Stories can't jump (because they are not alive) but saying "the story jumped " gives the reader a sense that the story was so vibrant and engrossing.

The creaky door groaned as it opened.

The door can't groan (it's non-living) but saying "the door groaned as it opened" gives the reader a sense that the door is weathered and old and doesn't want to be opened (just like if you were an eighty year old and you just stood up after sitting for a while.)

I hope this helps.

One participant may persuade another to contradict himself in some way, enhancing the point of the inquirer.

According to the Socratic approach, better hypotheses are discovered by gradually recognizing and discarding those that result in inconsistencies. The Socratic method looks for general truths that are widely accepted and scrutinizes them to see if they are consistent with other beliefs. The fundamental structure consists of a series of inquiries designed as logical and factual tests to aid an individual or group in identifying their beliefs on a particular subject. Write a two- to five-paragraph response using the resources and evidence you found to counter the argument you chose from the video.

Answers

The argument I chose to counter from the video is that the current US immigration system is broken.

My response is that the US immigration system is not broken, but rather is in need of reform. To support this response, I provide evidence from a variety of sources.

First, the Pew Research Center reports that the number of immigrants to the US has been decreasing since the early 2000s. This indicates that the US immigration system is working in some capacity to reduce the number of immigrants entering the US. Additionally, the US Department of Homeland Security has reported that the US immigration system was able to apprehend over a million people attempting to enter the US illegally in 2018. This shows that the US immigration system has the ability to enforce laws and keep out individuals attempting to enter the US without authorization.

Furthermore, a study conducted by the Immigration Policy Center concluded that immigrants in the US contribute to the economy, with an estimated $11.7 billion in taxes annually. This shows that immigrants are not a burden on the US economy, but rather an important source of economic growth.

In conclusion, while the US immigration system may not be perfect, it is not broken. There are several areas that need reform, such as increasing the number of visas granted to immigrants and providing more resources to border enforcement, but the current system is functioning in some capacity. With the right reforms, the US immigration system can be improved and made even more effective in the future.

Answer:

A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work. I was born in Honduras on a rainy November night. The wind was heavy as if it was warning the people around the hospital that something was wrong or something was out of place. Due to personal problems, my dad left my mom but my mom didn’t get sad or depressed. She just stands in from all of those problems and fights them and from that moment my mom decides to take care of me by herself and this is why she decided to move to the U.S to try to give me a better life. She brought me to the U.S to achieve my personal goals and that is like my mom never giving up on anything and trying to face all my problems with my chin raised.

When I got to the U.S. everything was different compared to my original country in Honduras, the way the people look and treat each other and also the way that I was classified was new to me. They classified me as a Hispanic/Latino something that in my original country did not exist and now without even realizing I was part of it, and my strong accent makes it easy for people to categorize me but I didn’t feel sad or anything because in the end, I realize that it doesn’t matter how others see me, in the end, I am that never going to change where I come from and where I am going. Something that was different was the language, I was scared since I felt as if I never gonna be able to communicate in the same way as others, but I push through that obstacles and I overcome them with some help from my friend and especially my mom who always was there for me and because of her support and her constant help that push me to do better even though I don’t understand much but that help me do better. But my accent stays beside me as a constant reminder of where I came from.

One obstacle that I overcome in my life was learning English. So it was hard but not impossible the situation in my country didn’t change that much. A lot of violence is still happening there, and one or two of the friends that I met in my original country had died due to the violence. That makes me think, what if I have chosen to stay there instead of coming here; I may be dead or skipping classes as I use to do there, and not caring about my life like my other friends. So that decision that I take when I was 13 changed my entire life. But challenges In life never gonna disappear that’s why you have to keep trying to succeed In everything you do Even though you know you will fail because when you try and fail you still win a fail and that is better than not even trying and not win anything. I think that part of my personality has helped me the most overcome the challenge. For example on 9th grade, there was this group that they usually call themselves “Team Science” In order to get in the club you have to do a super hard science question It took me 2 months and 22 different tries. The teacher changes the question three times because three different kids get the question earlier than me so he has to put another one. That always makes me feel like it does not matter how hard I try somebody else always gonna get it first then me but I never quit trying because I knew that I was getting experience by doing all those questions and that I was getting closer, and closer until one day I finally get all of the rights.

I was so happy then I almost cry finally my hard work has given me a result and it was awesome. That teaches me that if you don’t try you will never get a result and that is why you have to keep trying over and over again by not giving it up. In conclusion, my Strength has always helped me reach my goals by teaching me the life lesson that I will never forget and giving me the tools to succeed in this crazy world.

I was really excited when I realize that I finally get the question right it was a turning point in my life to finally win something to prove to all those people who laugh at me because I was trying so hard. But in the end, The most important thing was that I prove to myself that I was capable of change and I was capable of doing anything that I propose to myself as long as I try with all my heart.
