The two little elephants would hear the trumpet and run towards their mummy to have their meal. Mummy elephant always fed Judy, the elder elephant first with a little extra food. One day, Judy noticed that Stumpy, the younger brother was very far ahead of him and he wanted to beat him because he wanted get bigger and stronger and needed more food for that. When he looked around, he noticed a little pathway that went right to his house, passing over a narrow log bridge and through a rocky area. He then made a decision to cut through it because he believed it would be quicker than trying to reach his mummy by crossing three rivers and a forest. He ran over to the log and started to cross it. He initially felt unsteady on the log, but he swiftly went on. However, the log broke just as Judy was about to cross it, throwing him into the rushing river below. He was unable to fight the water current and was quickly swept away by it. He frantically called for his brother Stumpy for help. After a few moments of struggle, Stumpy helped his brother Judy out of the river. As a result of saving him, Judy let Stumpy reach the house first. They both happily had their meal with their mummy. That day Judy realised that 'a short cut is often a wrong cut'.

Which excerpts from "The Caged Bird” can be interpreted as part of the extended metaphor that represents freedom? Choose three answers.

Answers

The extended metaphors that can be interpreted as part of the excerpt that represents freedom are "floats downstream, the trade winds soft, and the dawn-bright lawn."

How did the extended metaphor represent freedom?

A metaphor is a figure of speech that allows a writer to make an implied comparison between two parts of a text.

This metaphor will appear in one or a few lines in a poem, but it will not be utilized throughout the text unless it is an extensive metaphor.

The expanded metaphor broadens the parallel to a longer text or the entire text.

In this scenario, the comparison's premise is repeated several times throughout the paragraph, always referring to the same subject.

We may find examples of the metaphor expanded in the lines "downstream floats," "the trade winds gentle," and "dawn-bright lawn" in Maya Angelou's poem "The Caged Bird," all of which enhance the sensation of freedom.
