My friend had concluded that if he took his language and culture out of his poetry, he stood a better chance of receiving a fellowship. He took out his native language, the poetic patois of our reality, the rich mixture of Spanish, English, pachuco and street talk which we know so well. In other words, he took the tortillas out of his poetry, which is to say he took the soul out of his poetry.
At a neighborhood fair in Texas, somewhere between the German Oom-pah Sausage Stand and the Mexican Gorditas booth, I overheard a young man say to his friend, “I wish I had a heritage. Sometimes I feel—so lonely for one.” And the tall American trees were dangling their thick branches right down over his head.
Which best states how the structures of both excerpts support ideas about cultural diversity?
Answer:
A). Each incorporates non-English words.
Explanation:
The structure of a text plays a key role in conveying the meaning to the readers. In both the given excerpts, the 'usage of non-English vocabulary' shows the way in which the structure/formation backs the idea of cultural and ethnic diversity.
In the first excerpt from 'Take the Tortillas out of your poetry,' the words like 'patois' and 'pachuco' adds a native and ethnic touch that promotes the idea of acceptance and admiration towards cultural diversity. While in the second excerpt from 'Speaking Arabic,' the regional words like 'Oompah' and 'Gorditas' also back the idea of cultural manifoldness. Thus, option A is the correct answer.

What is the main religion in Laos?

8 Where was Hitler born?
9 What is the country with the most number of prisoners?
10 What do Vietnamese people avoid doing during the first 3 days of Lunar New Year?
11 Why do Vietnamese people lay food on the altar?
Answer:
- What is the main religion in Laos?
Theravada Buddhism is the dominant religion of the ethnic or “lowland” Laos.
- Where is Egypt located?
Egypt is located in northeastern Africa.
- What is legal in the Netherlands but not in Vietnam?
Owning weapons. Besides the military, nobody in the Netherlands can shoot or own an automatic weapon. In Vietnam, it's illegal for civilians to own firearms, and if caught, you'll be subjected to harsh punishment.
- What is the country famous for plastic surgery?
The United States. According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS), the United States claims the highest total number of plastic surgery procedures in the world.
- What is the second largest country in the world?
Canada. It is the second largest country in the world in area (after Russia), occupying roughly the northern two-fifths of the continent of North America.
- Where was Hitler born?
He was born in Braunau am Inn, Austria.
- What is the country with the most number of prisoners?
Of course this title would go to the one and only, The United States of America. As of June 2020, the United States had the highest number of incarcerated individuals worldwide, with more than 2.12 million people in prison.
- What do Vietnamese people avoid doing during the first 3 days of Lunar New Year?
They don't sweep their houses or dump the garbage. During the three days of Tet, if Vietnamese people have to clean the house, Vietnamese families often sweep into a corner of the house, and the garbage will be removed later. Sweeping your house on the first day of Tet is considered bad luck.
- Why do Vietnamese people lay food on the altar?
To honor the dead. Nearly every home, office, and business in Vietnam has a small altar to honor ancestors. The gift of food is a way to honor and remember the ancestors.

Write TWO paragraphs (at least 100 words) to support the idea that leisure time is important. Below are some suggested topic sentences:
1. Leisure time can improve people’s physical wellness.
2. Leisure time is good for people’s mental health.
Answer:
Leisure means an activity or premeditated inactivity that acts on one's will. As a deeper psychological concept, leisure refers to aesthetic and spiritual experiences produced by this activity. It is different from work, which is done for the purpose of earning money or meeting the immediate needs of life. And yet, it differs from other daily routines, such as food, sleep, household, etc. The special feature of leisure is not the activity itself, but the mood with which it is done.
In turn, leisure is an important part of the well-being of individuals, as it allows them to be distracted from their daily activities, which contributes to their mental and emotional well-being, by allowing them temporary escapes from their jobs and family activities. In addition, while these activities often involve games, sports or physical exercise, they also contribute to the well-being and physical health of individuals.

He Had His Dream
by Paul Laurence Dunbar
He had his dream, and all through life,
Worked up to it through toil and strife.
Afloat fore’er before his eyes,
It colored for him all his skies:
The storm–cloud dark
Above his bark,
The calm and listless vault of blue
Took on its hopeful hue,
It tinctured every passing beam—
He had his dream.
He labored hard and failed at last,
His sails too weak to bear the blast,
The raging tempests tore away
And sent his beating bark astray.
But what cared he
For wind or sea!
He said, “The tempest will be short,
My bark will come to port.”
He saw through every cloud a gleam—
He had his dream.

Fifty-five delegates representing all thirteen states except Rhode Island attended the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia from May to September 1787. The delegates had been instructed by the Continential Congress to revise the old Articles off Confederation, but most believed that a strong central government was needed. There were differences, however, about what structure the government should take and how much influence large states should have.

The smaller states feared that under this plan, a few large states would lord over the rest. New Jersey countered with the Small State Plan. It provided for equal representation for all states in a national legistature and for a singer national executive. Angry debate, heightened by a stifling heat wave, lead to deadlock.
A cooling of tempers seemed to come with lower temperatures. The delegates harmmered out an agreement known as the Great Compromise - actually a bundle of shrewd compromises. They decided that Congress would consist of two houses. The larger states were granted representation based on population in the lower house, the House of Representatives. The smaller states were given equal representation in the upper house, the Senate, in which each state would have two senators regardless of population. Read the excerpt from the story Hummingbird and Heron:
Many years ago, when the world was so young that the sun was still new in the sky, there lived two friends. Heron was large and slow, with a long, gangly neck and big, floppy wings. Hummingbird was tiny and swift, with wings that moved so quickly that they buzzed and a slender beak as sleek as a needle.
Heron and Hummingbird both loved to eat fish from the river. Every morning, Heron would fish to her heart's content, eating until her stomach was so round and heavy that she had to waddle back to shore. Every afternoon, Hummingbird would fish and feast until he was so heavy that his tiny, buzzing wings could no longer keep him in the air. Heron and Hummingbird thought they were the luckiest birds in the world.
One afternoon, Hummingbird did not catch as many fish as usual. He fished and he fished, but his line came up empty more times than it ever had before. He flew to Heron's house.
"Heron! Heron!" he called. "Why have you eaten all the fish?"
Heron bustled to her door, angry and surprised at her friend's accusation.
"Me? Eat all the fish?" she squawked. "I barely caught anything this morning! My poor stomach has been growling all day."
