A women's coat comes in sizes 4,6,8 , or 10 in black, brown, ivory, and cinnamon. How many different coats could be selected?

Answers

Answer 1

As women's coat comes in sizes 4,6,8 , or 10 in black, brown, ivory, and cinnamon , possibility of selection of different coats is equal to 16.

As given in the question,

Availability of size number in women's coat = 4, 6, 8, or 10

⇒N(S) =4

Availability of color in women's coat = black, brown, ivory, and cinnamon

⇒ N(C) =4

Possibility of selection of different women's coats = N(S) × N (C)

                                                                              =4 × 4

                                                                              =16

Therefore, the possibility of selection of different coats is equal to 16  as per the availability of women's coat sizes and colors.

One-fifth of the greater of two consecutive Integers is 7 less than one-half of the lesser Integer. What are the integers?

Answers

The two consecutive integer numbers are 24 and 25.

How to find the two consecutive integers?

We can write the two consecutive integers as x and x + 1, where the larger one is x + 1.

We know that 1/5 of the larger is 7 less than 1/2 of the lesser one, then we can write the linear equation:

1/5*(x + 1) = 1/2*x - 7

1/5*x + 1/5 = 1/2*x - 7

So we need to solve that for x:

1/5 + 7 = 1/2*x - 1/5*x

1/5 + 35/5 = 5/10*x - 2/10*x

36/5 = 3/10*x

(36/5)*(10/3) = x = 24

So the smaller is 24, and the larger is x + 1 = 25.

The two consecutive integer numbers are 24 and 25.

Answers

Answer:

Question 4 : 10 m

Question 5 : Square root 37

Step-by-step explanation:

QUESTION 4: So for the this one here we need to make a drawing (unfortunately). Lets break down the question because having a math problem with a ton of words is confusing sometimes. So we have a pole that is 8m high, so we can draw that out. So we take some cable and go 6 m from the bottom of the pole. So now we want to know how long the cable is and if we go from the top of the pole to the bottom 6m away it looks like this. (Below I'll put what I have written) Since now it's a 90 degrees angle there is a specific formula we can use in situations like this. Where we know 2 sides and need 1 more. a^2 + b^2 = c^2 should look familiar if it doesn't its all good! :D a^2 + b^2 = c^2 is called 'Pythagorean's theorem' (we don't really need to know that part) but basically we use it whenever we need to figure out a side when we already know the other two. We know that the straight line is 8, and the horizontal line is 6. So we can use that formula to get the last number. just know that whenever we have the right triangle, we can use the a^2 + b^2 = c^2 to get all the sides for it. The a and b in the formula are always the straight lines. The c is always the slanted line (the red line I drew). We don't know what it is, so we'll just put c^2 into our equation but we can solve for it! So 8^2 would equal to 64. 6^2 would equal to 36. 64 + 36 here gets us 100. Here's another trick you might need to memorize. Whenever there is a number squared like c^2, we can take the square root of both sides to get rid of it. So c^2 just becomes c. It's a little weird but very useful to remember.  But if you remember the a^2 + b^2 = c^2 and use that square root technique you can get an A+ every time. :D Now all we need to know is the square root of 100. It's a big one so using a calculator is fine, here its just 10. Therefore our answer is 10.

QUESTION 5:  We'll start off by reading 'distance between points' is a big thing to note here. There is a formula that we can directly use here. (I'll write under the picture in black). So distance between points always uses this formula: (In black). Okay, so the formula in black has more letters in it (which sucks) but we can break it down. When we have numbers like this (3, 0) it means (x, y). So I wrote down what the x1, y1, x2, y2, are here. X1 is just the first number, y1 is the second, x2 is the third, and y2 is the fourth. I just plugged in all the numbers from above in the order we put (x2, x1, y2, y1). Basically we can just solve this now! As of right now we'll need to solve (-3 -3)^2 when we solve that we should get 36. Next we're gonna solve  (-1 - 0)^2 and we should get the answer of 1. Now we need to solve 36 +1 and we should know that it equals 37. Therefore we'd get answer: square root 37.

The solution of the linear equation in one variable 4y - 6 = 2y + 8 is at y = 7.

According to the given question.

We have a linear equation in one variable.

4y - 6 = 2y + 8

As we know that, the linear equations in one variable is an equation which is expressed in the form of ax+b = 0, where a and b are two integers, and x is a variable and has only one solution.

Thereofre, the solution of the linear equation in one variable 4y - 6 = 2y + 8 is given by

4y - 6 = 2y + 8

⇒ 4y - 2y - 6 = 8     ( subtracting 2y from both the sides)

⇒ 2y -6 -8 = 0           (subtracting 8 from both the sides)

⇒ 2y - 14 = 0

⇒ 2y = 14

The coordinates of the orthocenter of Δ RST is (3, 6).

What is the orthocenter of the triangle?

An orthocenter of a triangle is the point at which altitudes drawn perpendicular from the vertex to the opposite sides of a triangle intersect. A triangle typically has three altitudes, and the intersection of all three altitudes is known as the orthocenter.

The orthocenter is the point where a triangle's three altitudes intersect, and the centroid is the point where the three medians intersect.

The midpoint of AD is (-1+3/2, 11+1/2) or (1, 6). Note that DC is a line that connects the vertex C and D, the midpoint of AB. The distance from D(1, 6) to C(7, 6) is 7 - 1 or 6 units.

If P is the centroid of the triangle XYZ, then PC = (2/3) DC.

The equation of the line 5y = -3x - 10 expressed in slope-intercept form is y = -3/5 x - 2 with a slope equal to -3/5.

The equation of a line can be expressed in three different forms: standard form, slope-intercept form, and point-slope form.

The slope-intercept form of the equation of a line is given by the formula:

y = mx + b

where m is the slope of the line

b is the y- intercept

Given the equation of the line 5y = -3x - 10, which the variable y is already isolated in one side, divide both sides by 5.

The additional cost required to pay for a 30 minutes call is 49.4 cents.

What is a word problem?

A word problem is defined as a mathematical problem written in form of words or sentences. These are assigned to students to determine their hold on the concepts.

Calculation of cost of calling 30 minutes

The cost for calling 4 minutes is 7.6 cents

The cost for calling 1 minute is 7.6 / 4

= 1.9

The cost for calling 30 minutes = 1.9 × 30

= 57 cents

The word 'more' in the word problem specifies the additional cost needed to make a 30-minute call i.e. it requires the difference between the cost of a 4-minute call and a 30 minutes call.

More cost = còst for calling 30 minutes- cost for calling 4 minutes

Find the distance between the pair of parallel lines with the given equations. (Lesson 3-6)
y=-4x-6 y=-4x+11

Answers

The distance between the pair of parallel lines given by the equations y = -4x - 6 and y = -4x + 11 is √17 units.

The shortest distance between two parallel lines is the length of the perpendicular segment between them.

First, determine the slope of the segment perpendicular to the parallel lines.

y = -4x - 6

m = -4

slope of perpendicular segment = 1/4

Consider a point that one of the equation passes through. Line y = -4x - 6 passes through (0 , -6).

Write the equation for the perpendicular line using the point-slope form.

(y - y1) = m(x - x1)

(y - -6) = 1/4(x - 0)

y + 6 = 1/4 x

y = 1/4x - 6

Determine the point where this perpendicular line intersects with the 2nd parallel line by equating both equations.

y = 1/4x - 6 = -4x + 11

1/4x + 4x = 11 + 6

17/4 x = 17

x = 4

Substitute this value of x in the previous equations,

y = 1/4x - 6

y = 1/4(4) - 6

y = 1 - 6

y = -5

Now, the distance between the two points (0 , -6) and (4 , -5) is the distance between the two parallel lines.

d = √(x2 - x1)^2 + (y2 - y1)^2

Forman1911THE MATCHThere never was a time when the world was without fire, but there was a time when men did not know how to kindle fire; and after they learned how to kindle one, it was a long, long time before they learned how to kindle one easily. In these days we can kindle a fire without any trouble, because we can easily get a match; but we must remember that the match is one of the most wonderful things in the world, and that it took men thousands of years to learn how to make one. Let us learn the history of this familiar little object, the match.Fire was first given to man by nature itself. When a forest is set on fire by cinders from a neighboring volcano, or when a tree is set ablaze by a thunderbolt, we may say that nature strikes a match. In the early history of the world, nature had to kindle all the fires, for man by his own effort was unable to produce a spark. The first method, then, of getting fire for use was to light sticks of wood at a flame kindled by natureby a volcano, perhaps, or by a stroke of lightning. These firebrands were carried to the home and used in kindling the fires there. The fire secured in this way was carefully guarded and was kept burning as long as possible. But the flame, however faithfully watched, would sometimes be extinguished. A sudden gust of wind or a sudden shower would put it out. Then a new firebrand would have to be secured, and this often meant a long journey and a deal of trouble.In 1827, John Walker, a druggist in a small English town, tipped a splint with sulphur, chlorate of potash, and sulphid of antimony, and rubbed it on sandpaper, and it burst into flame. The druggist had discovered the first friction-chemical match, the kind we use to-day. It is called friction-chemical because it is made by mixing certain chemicals together and rubbing them. Although Walker's match did not require the bottle of acid, nevertheless it was not a good one. It could be lighted only by hard rubbing, and it sputtered and threw fire in all directions. In a few years, however, phosphorus was substituted on the tip for antimony, and the change worked wonders. The match could now be lighted with very little rubbing, and it was no longer necessary to have sandpaper upon which to rub it. It would ignite when rubbed on any dry surface, and there was no longer any sputtering. This was the phosphorus match, the match with which we are so familiar.Which line from the text shows the problem with the first matches?
