The Missouri Plan (originally known as the Missouri Nonpartisan Court Plan, also known as the merit plan, or some variation) is a method of judicial selection. It began in Missouri in 1940 and has since been adopted by many states across the country. Some other countries use similar methods.

A non-partisan commission reviews candidates for judicial vacancies under the Plan. The commission then sends the governor a list of candidates it believes are the most qualified. After that, the governor has sixty days to choose a candidate from the list. If the governor does not make a choice within sixty days, the commission does.

American settlers were drawn to Texas in the early 1800s due to its rich soil, ample land, and opportunities for economic growth.

However, tensions arose between these settlers and the Mexican government, which had recently gained control of Texas. In 1835, a group of Texans rebelled against Mexican rule and declared independence. This led to the famous Battle of the Alamo and the subsequent defeat of the Texan forces. However, under the leadership of Sam Houston, the Texans regrouped and defeated the Mexican army at the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836, securing their independence. Texas became a republic, and later joined the United States as a state in 1845, leading to tensions between the US and Mexico that ultimately led to the Mexican-American War.

What caused the Bonus Army March on Washington DC?

Answers

The Bonus Army March on Washington DC in 1932 was caused by the desire of World War I veterans for early payment of the cash bonus promised to them by the government for their service.

During World War I, the US government promised to pay bonuses to veterans for their service. The bonus was not due to be paid until 1945, but with the onset of the Great Depression in the early 1930s, many veterans found themselves struggling financially. In 1932, a group of veterans, known as the Bonus Army, began to gather in Washington DC to demand early payment of the bonus.

At its peak, the Bonus Army consisted of around 43,000 veterans and their families. They set up camps and demonstrated in front of the Capitol building, calling on the government to pass legislation to provide them with immediate payment of their bonuses.

The situation turned violent when President Herbert Hoover ordered the military to disperse the protesters, and the military used tear gas, cavalry, and tanks to clear the camps. The confrontation resulted in several deaths and many injuries.

The Bonus Army march on Washington DC was a significant event in US history, as it highlighted the struggles of many Americans during the Great Depression and the government's response to the economic crisis. The event also contributed to the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt as President, who implemented policies to address the economic challenges faced by Americans during the Depression.

Explain why Hitler came to power in 1933 in a PEE paragraph using the words Votes and The Great Depression.

Answers

Hitler came into power due to the fact that his party got a lot of support from the Germans and because of the great depression.

How did Hitler get power?

Hitler came to power in 1933 as a result of several factors, including the votes he received and the impact of the Great Depression. Firstly, Hitler and his party, the National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nazi Party), gained significant support from the German people in the elections of 1933 due to their promises of restoring the country's economy and national pride. The Great Depression had created widespread unemployment and poverty in Germany, and Hitler's message of hope and change resonated with many voters.

Secondly, the Great Depression provided the perfect opportunity for Hitler to seize power. The German government was in disarray and the public was desperate for solutions to the economic crisis. Hitler and the Nazis capitalized on this desperation by presenting themselves as the only ones with the answers to Germany's problems. By leveraging the widespread dissatisfaction with the existing political system, Hitler and the Nazis were able to gain significant support and ultimately win the 1933 elections.

In conclusion, the votes that Hitler received and the impact of the Great Depression were two key factors that led to Hitler coming to power in 1933. The combination of widespread economic hardship and the Nazis' effective propaganda and political strategy allowed them to gain a significant following and eventually seize control of the government.

Per the film Lincoln, what were the sentiments of the "people"? Why did they have those sentiments and what if anything was done to change them?

Answers

With the subject of slavery and the Civil War, there was disagreement among the populace in the movie "Lincoln." The story takes place in 1865, during the waning days of the American Civil War.

As President Abraham Lincoln struggles to get the Thirteenth Amendment to the US Constitution passed, which would end slavery in the country. Throughout the movie, there were some characters who supported the abolition of slavery and thought it was the moral thing to do. Others, on the other hand, were against the amendment and thought it would ruin the South's economy and way of life.

The fact that the Civil War had been raging for four years and that many people wanted it to end contributed to the feeling against the amendment. Several people believed that there were more important matters to resolve and that abolishing slavery was not worth extending the fight. President Lincoln and his allies in Congress used a range of political strategies, including providing bribes, striking deals with political rivals, and appealing to people's emotions to influence people's minds and win support for the amendment. Additionally, they underlined the moral necessity of putting an end to slavery and the significance of making sure that everyone, regardless of colour, was treated equally under the law.

They were ultimately successful, and on December 6, 1865, just a few months after the Civil War's conclusion, the Thirteenth Amendment was approved. The amendment paved the way for the eventual giving of civil rights to all Americans, regardless of race, and effectively put an end to slavery in the United States.

What are the limitations of using the Marxist approach to analyze the socioeconomic status of society?

While the Marxist approach can provide valuable insights into the socioeconomic status of society, it also has its limitations. One of the main criticisms of the Marxist approach is that it tends to oversimplify the complexity of social relations and cultural production. In addition, it often neglects the role of individual agency, free will, and subjective experiences, instead emphasizing economic determinism and class conflict. Another limitation is that the Marxist approach may fail to account for the diversity and intersectionality of identity markers such as gender, race, ethnicity, and sexuality, which can shape the experience of socioeconomic status in unique ways. The Hardy Weinberg theorem also describes populations in which allele frequencies are not changing. By definition, such populations are not evolving. How does the theorem help us understand evolution in the real world? From the theorem, we can infer factors that cause allele frequencies to change. These factors are the forces of evolution. There are four such forces: mutation, gene flow, genetic drift, and natural selection. Mutation Mutation creates new genetic variation in a gene pool. It is how all new alleles first arise. In sexually reproducing species, the mutations that matter for evolution are those that occur in gametes. Only these mutations can be passed to offspring. For any given gene, the chance of a mutation occurring in a given gamete is very low. Thus, mutations alone do not have much effect on allele frequencies. However, mutations provide the genetic variation needed for other forces of evolution to act. Gene Flow Gene flow occurs when people move into or out of a population. If the rate of migration is high, this can have a significant effect on allele frequencies. Both the population they leave and the population they enter may change. During the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 1970s, many American servicemen had children with Vietnamese women. Most of the servicemen returned to the United States after the war. However, they left copies of their genes behind in their offspring. In this way, they changed the allele frequencies in the Vietnamese gene pool. Was the gene pool of the American population also affected? Why or why not? Genetic Drift Genetic drift is a random change in allele frequencies that occurs in a small population. When a small number of parents produce just a few offspring, allele frequencies in the offspring may differ, by chance, from allele frequencies in the parents. This is like tossing a coin. If you toss a coin just a few times, you may by chance get more or less than the expected 50 percent heads or tails. In a small population, you may also by chance get different allele frequencies than expected in the next generation. In this way, allele frequencies may drift over time. Genetic drift occurs under two special conditions. They are called bottleneck effect and founder effect. 1. Bottleneck effect occurs when a population suddenly gets much smaller. This might happen because of a natural disaster, such as a forest fire. By chance, allele frequencies of the survivors may be different from those of the original population. 2. Founder effect occurs when a few individuals start, or found, a new population. By chance, allele frequencies of the founders may be different from allele frequencies of the population they left. 17.
