Branch circuits that fall within this article's definition must be allowed as multiwire circuits. It is okay to think of a multiwire circuit as having numerous circuits. The same panelboard or other similar distribution equipment must be the source of all wires in a multiwire branch circuit.

Each multiwire branch circuit must group its grounded and ungrounded circuit cables in accordance with 200.4. (B).

All loads must be supplied by line-to-neutral multiwire branch circuits.

The first exception is a multiwire branch circuit that serves a single piece of used equipment.

Exception No. 2: The multiwire branch circuit's ungrounded wires must all be opened simultaneously by the branch-circuit overcurrent mechanism.
