Transitions should not be used:
A. to connect steps of a process.
B. at the beginning of your clincher sentence.
C. to connect important ideas.
D. in the second sentence of every paragraph.
Answer:
Transitions are these words:
A is not the answer because transitions should be used to connect the steps of a process. That’s the whole purpose of them.
A clincher sentence is a summary sentence. Using transitions for a summary isnt exactly ideal, although sometimes certain instances require the use of transitions. I’m honestly not sure if that answer is correct or not.
Transitions are used to connect important ideas.
Transitions don’t exactly have to be used in the second sentence of every paragraph. Sometimes, a paragraph contains sentences that are related but don’t need to be connected.
So it’s between B. and D.
I’m more inclined to choose B, but I’m not sure.
Sorry if its wrong.

In the spirit world, the trickster god Raven grew bored. He decided to leave and fly over the earth, but he found it was in total darkness. The selfish Sky Chief had been hoarding daylight from the world. Raven wanted to be able to see the earth as he flew over it, so he decided to play a trick on the chief and steal the light. Raven crept into the chief’s dwelling. He appeared as a baby, with raven hair and black eyes. The chief's daughter adopted the child, never knowing that he was in fact Raven the trickster. —"The Raven and the First Men: The Beginnings of the Haida"

Answer:
The correct answer is option A. Hurricane Don approaches land, forcing Drew to leave his home
behind.
Explanation:
Classic Tragedy is characterized by presenting historical or mythological characters (Kings, heroes and demigods), who suffer a misfortune caused by the will of the gods or fate, in this case a hurricane. The problems of this genre are far from the questions of everyday life. The outcome is always unfortunate, since it ends with the death or punishment of the hero.
The characters are noble; the protagonist must face an adverse fate, which has been set by the gods and from which he cannot escape.
The language in which the characters express themselves is similar to their social category and is characterized by their formal registration.

Memories of a Memory
Have you ever witnessed something amazing, shocking or surprising and found when describing the event that your story seems to change the more you tell it? Have you ever experienced a time when you couldn't really describe something you saw in a way that others could understand? If so, you may understand why some experts think eyewitness testimony is unreliable as evidence in scientific inquiries and trials. New insights into human memory suggest human memories are really a mixture of many non-factual things.
First, memory is vague. Imagine your room at home or a classroom you see every day. Most likely, you could describe the room very generally. You could name the color of the walls, the floors, the decorations. But the image you describe will never be as specific or detailed as if you were looking at the actual room. Memory tends to save a blurry image of what we have seen rather than specific details. So when a witness tries to identify someone, her brain may recall that the person was tall, but not be able to say how tall when faced with several tall people. There are lots of different kinds of "tall."
Second, memory uses general knowledge to fill in gaps. Our brains reconstruct events and scenes when we remember something. To do this, our brains use other memories and other stories when there are gaps. For example, one day at a library you go to quite frequently, you witness an argument between a library patron and one of the librarians. Later, when telling a friend about the event, your brain may remember a familiar librarian behind the desk rather than the actual participant simply because it is recreating a familiar scene. In effect, your brain is combining memories to help you tell the story.
Third, your memory changes over time. It also changes the more you retell the story. Documented cases have shown eyewitnesses adding detail to testimony that could not have been known at the time of the event. Research has also shown that the more a witness's account is told, the less accurate it is. You may have noticed this yourself. The next time you are retelling a story, notice what you add, or what your brain wants to add, to the account. You may also notice that you drop certain details from previous tellings of the story.
With individual memories all jumbled up with each other, it is hard to believe we ever know anything to be true. Did you really break your mother's favorite vase when you were three? Was that really your father throwing rocks into the river with you when you were seven? The human brain may be quite remarkable indeed. When it comes to memory, however, we may want to start carrying video cameras if we want to record the true picture.
Part A and Part B below contain one fill-in-the-blank to be used for all three question responses. Your complete response must be in the format A, B, C including the letter choice, commas, and a space after the commas.
Part A:
Which of the following best summarizes the main point of the essay "Memories of a Memory"?
Fill in blank 1 using A, B, or C.
Humans cannot recall their earliest memories accurately.
Humans have interesting brains that do many things to memories.
Humans have trouble recalling details of spaces.
Part B
Select one quotation from the text that supports your answer to Part A. Add your selection to blank 1 using D, E, or J.
With individual memories all jumbled up with each other, it is hard to believe we ever know anything to be true.
You may understand why some experts think eyewitness testimony is unreliable as evidence in scientific inquiries and trials
J. Research has also shown that the more a witness's account is told, the less accurate it is.
Select one quotation from the text that supports your answer to Part A. Add your selection to blank 1 using F, G, or H.
F. New insights into human memory suggest human memories are really a mixture of many non-factual things.
G. The image you describe will never be as specific or detailed as if you were looking at the actual room.
H. In effect, your brain is combining memories to help you tell the story.
Answer for Blank 1:
Answer:
Humans have interesting brains that do many things to memories.
With individual memories all jumbled up with each other, it is hard to believe we ever know anything to be true.
New insights into human memory suggest human memories are really a mixture of many non-factual things.
Explanation:
The text shows how imprecise our memory is. That's because our brain has the ability to modify memories, fill in white spaces in the memory of a story or a situation, interweave different memories and even delete a memory completely or partially.
For this reason, it is common that we can never remember something as it truly is, what we have is a vague and blurred report that may be totally out of what really happened.

Distinguish which sentence uses the incorrect verb tense. Whenever we go to the mall we used to get a soft pretzel. We will go to the store, however, we’ve not left yet. When purchasing food, one should always order clearly. We went to the mall yesterday, but didn’t find anything.
Answer:
Whenever we go to the mall we used to get a soft pretzel.
Explanation:
The first sentence has an error in the use of the verb tense. The tense agreement between the dependent clause and the independent clause is incorrect. In the dependent clause 'Whenever we go to the mall', the tense 'go' does not agree with the verb 'used to' in the independent variable 'we used to get a soft pretzel.'
Answer:
The correct answer is whenever we go to the mall we used to get a soft pretzel.
Explanation:
In this sentence, there is no comma and it used present tense and past tense in the same sentence. This is what makes it wrong. I also did this on a quiz so I know that it is right. I hope that I helped.
