Jamie owns a house painting service. for each house, she charges $70 plus $40 per hour of work. a linear equation that expresses the total amount of money jamie earns per house is y=70+40x. what are the independent and dependent variables? what is the y-intercept and the slope?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Explanation:

(a. The independent variable is 40x. Independent variable: Not influenced by the changing of other factors, can be denoted by x

(b. The dependent  variable is 70; it has no x values with it.

(C. the y intercept is 70, because again, it has no x besides it , and also, with the formula y=mx+b, b has to just be a number.

(d. The slope is 40 because its placed where the "m" is in the formula.

y=mx+b

y= SLOPEx+ y intercept

slope times x  plus the y intercept

m= slope

b= y intercept

Hope this helps :)) Brainliest  would be appreciated as i put some effort into this thanks :D

Answer 2
hi just wanted to fix some things from the previous answer:

the independent variable is the quantity that changes independently and is the value that controls the change in the dependent variable. 40x is a term that includes the independent variable, but it is wrong to say that it is the independent variable. the independant variable actually is hours, since when we change the amount of hours (x), we therefore change the outcome of the equation. the independent variable is always denoted by a single variable.

for the dependent variable, it is the value that change ls because of the change in the independent variable. in this case, dollars (y) is the quantity that changes because of the change in "x".

and just because a number does not have x attached to it does not mean to that it is the y intercept, but in this case, you are correct in the fact that 70 does happen to be the y-intercept, but a number is only a y-intercept when x is set to zero in an equation and then the equation is evaluated.

thirdly, you are correct on the slope because it is the coefficient of x in a linear equation, therefore making it the slope.

in the slope intercept form for a linear equation (y = mx + b), y is the dependent variable, m is the slope, x is the independent variable (not mx) and, and the y-intercept is b

so dependent is dollars (y), the slope is 40 (m), the independent is time (x), and the y-intercept is 70 (b).

thanks!

Answer:

D.

Explanation:

Put simply, a Computer Adaptive Test (sometimes referred to as personalised assessment) is a test which adapts to the candidate's ability in real-time by selecting different questions from the bank in order to provide a more accurate measure of their ability level on a common scale.

A test that adjusts the difficulty of the questions based on the student's answers to previous questions. The correct option is D.

What is adaptive test?

An adaptive test is one that adjusts the difficulty level of the questions based on the student's performance on previous questions.

In other words, if a student correctly answers a question, the next one will be slightly more difficult. If a student incorrectly answers a question, the next question will be slightly easier.

Adaptive tests are used in a wide range of situations, including educational testing and computer-based assessments.

Adaptive testing has the advantage of providing a more accurate and efficient assessment of a student's knowledge and abilities.

The test can quickly determine the student's level of proficiency and provide a more precise measurement of their skills by adjusting the difficulty level of the questions.

Thus, the correct option is D.

A balloon takes 1 minute to rise 60 feet in the air. each minute after that, the balloon rises 40% as far as it did the previous minute. which equation represents the total distance, d, in feet that the balloon rises in 6 minutes?

Answers

The equation represents the total distance, d, in feet that the balloon rises in 6 minutes [tex]d=\frac{60(1-0.4^6)}{1-0.4}[/tex].

Given that a balloon takes 1 min to rise 60 feet in the air each min after that it rises 40% as far as the previous minute

So it second minute it rises 40% x 60 feet (60 x 0.4)= 24 feet in 3rd minute it rises 40% x 24 feet = (24x0.4) = (60x0.42) feet

So in n-th minute it rises (60 x [tex]0.4^{n-1}[/tex]) feet

So total height d in n- minutes will be

d =  60 + (60 × 0.4) + (60 × 0.4²) + ... + (60 x 0.4"-1)

  = 60[1 + 0.4 + 0.4² + ... + 0.4" 1]

  [tex]=60 \times \frac{1-0.4^n}{1-0.4}[/tex]

here n=6

So it will rise to

[tex]d=\frac{60(1-0.4^6)}{1-0.4}[/tex]
