The Agricultural Revolution:

The revolution that shaped the modern world

By Nolan Norman

During the end of the Neolithic Stone Age, the earth started heating up and new plants began showing up. Some of these were wild types of wheat and barley. Then people started learning to grow more of these crops. Then went from hunting animals, to domesticating animals to breed and keep as pets. So with this started the Agricultural Revolution.

The Agricultural Revolution was a revolution because it was a new way of getting and producing  food. It changed people’s way of life. Now people became dependent farmers and domesticated animals to help them with their work and provide an easier way to get meat along with a plethora of other things. They didn’t have to keep moving from one cave to another. They then started to build permanent homes for themselves and were able to have a safer way of life. They built their homes near rivers, so that they could have fertile soil to plant crops, and so that they had easy access to water to drink, and water the crops with.

Farming created many brand new challenges that early humans had to learn to work with. That is why this point in history is called a revolution. People's entire way of life along with traditions and habits.

In order to keep crops watered and protect them from flooding they built large channels to control the rivers and keep the land from flooding. The calendar was also developed so that people knew when to plant and harvest. The people also created gods of harvest such as Demeter the greek god of harvest, and Lugh the celtic god of harvest. While there are plenty of other gods of harvest I can not name all of them.

Because people started working together they realized that words were not enough to communicate. They needed a new system of conveying their thoughts and findings. This new form of communicating is called cuneiform script.

In conclusion, the Agricultural Revolution changed and shaped the modern world as we know it. This revolution has affected the way we live. We changed from a hunter- gatherer society to an agricultural society, instead of hunting animals we began taming them. I can safely say The Agricultural Revolution has changed are world for the better.

Mexico wanted Americans to settle in Texas in order to protect Texas from attacks by Native Americans and to reinforce the Border.

Americans wanted to settle in Texas to take advantage of cheap land and to encourage the U.S. to eventually annex Texas.

American settlers came into conflict with the Mexican government as a result of them bringing slavery to Texas which was illegal in Mexico.

The Alamo saw the brutal massacre of around 150 Texan rebels.

The United States did not want to annex Texas at first because:

It might lead to war with MexicoIt would upset the free states

What happened in Texas in the early 1800s?

At first, Texas was a part of Mexico but it did not have many people in it. It therefore encouraged Americans to settle there with the promise of cheap land so that they would protect the area from Native American attacks.

The Americans came with their enslaved people which was illegal in Mexico because Mexico had outlawed slavery. The Americans did not like this and some of them called for secession from Mexico. This led to a rebellion at the Alamo and the Mexican army killed all the people there. This led to the Texan Revolution which ended with Texas being independent.

The U.S. wanted to annex Texas but was hesitant as this would mean war with Mexico which still regarded Texas as theirs. There was also the issue that Texas was a slave state and so the free states would not be happy with such an annexation.
